Litigation Education Retreat

Program Description

This seminar will educate our insured member who is actively defending themselves in a medical malpractice lawsuit on the emotional aspects of allegations of malpractice by a patient, learn coping mechanisms in dealing with these emotions and ways to seek support.

The insured will leave the seminar with a greater understanding of the medical /legal process and their role in litigation. They will learn skills to assist them in being the most effective witness they can be during deposition and trial testimony.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Deploy coping mechanisms in dealing with emotions of anger, fear, depression, and anxiety associated with malpractice litigation and identify ways to seek support. 
  • Describe key aspects of the legal process including deposition styles, courtroom etiquette, and their role as well as the roles of defense attorney, plaintiff attorney, and jury. 
  • Demonstrate techniques that reinforce their role as a confident, competent professional, including personal appearance and demeanor that are essential to being an effective witness. 
  • Practice steps to prepare for both deposition and trial testimony and participate in a mock deposition.
