One Click Away: Risks of EHR - Warrensville Heights, OH

Program Description

Over 50 percent of all healthcare providers in the United States have implemented an electronic health record (EHR) system due, in part, to recent federal incentive payments.  However, a recent review of closed claims at The Doctors Company reveals that education centered on physician awareness of the potential for patient injury using an EHR is critical for all specialties.  Providing knowledge of EHR risks and ways to reduce those claims and incidents will improve the quality of patient-centered care.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Explain four benefits of an electronic health record
  • Detail three potential user errors when using an  electronic health record system
  • Review strategies on how to become an effective EHR user
  • Discuss two components of an EHR security risk analysis
