Medication Management in The Office Practice

Program Description

Medication errors—many easily prevented—are among the most prevalent misadventures that occur in medicine. Approximately one million injuries occur each year as a result of adverse drug events, and the annual cost of these errors has been estimated to exceed $20 billion. Medication errors are attributed to several factors, including faulty prescribing, monitoring failure, unsafe refill practices, improper documentation, and inadequate communications. This recorded webinar will address safe medication prescribing processes and systems that are critical components in reducing the risk of adverse drug events and medication errors.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Recognize the scale of medication mismanagement and error in the United States.
  • Identify four common issues that contribute to medication error.
  • Describe two risk factors that can lead to prescription drug abuse.
