Program Description
Physicians will benefit from an increased awareness and understanding of risks associated with patient dismissal. This program will provide information and guidance on best practice when dismissing a patient from the medical practice. The session will also provide guidance to avoid allegations of patient abandonment and to appropriately document the patient dismissal process.
Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Discuss the rationale for ending a physician- patient relationship
- Describe how to avoid abandonment charges when dismissing a patient
- Assess two priority areas for documentation when dismissing a patient from the medical practice
