HIPAA & HITECH Update

Program Description

This live and interactive educational program will assist the physician, providers, and staff in understanding the principles and requirements of the HIPAA-HITECH regulations. The learners will be able to apply HIPAA-HITECH principles to their individual roles at the practice, and learn where to seek help and guidance with respect to questions which may arise in their daily work. Case studies will provide the learner with real life scenarios which demonstrate the practical application of the HIPAA Privacy and Security regulations.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Recognize the purpose of the HIPAA regulations.
  • Discuss patient rights under the HIPAA Privacy laws.
  • Identify breach notification requirements and outline the consequences of a breach.
  • Explain the privacy and security concepts and regulations which apply to his/her role at the practice.

RCW 48.22.080 Health care liability risk management training program. Effective July 1, 1994, a casualty insurer’s issuance of a new medical malpractice policy or renewal of an existing medical malpractice policy to a physician or other independent health care practitioner shall be conditioned upon that practitioner’s participation in, and completion of, an insurer-designed health care liability risk management training program once every three years.
