“Physician, Heal Thyself”: Critical Elements of Physician Wellness

Program Description

As a physician, are you realizing that what once started out as important and meaningful work for you has become unfulfilling and empty? Are you frequently exhausted, cynical, and less effective with your patients? You could be experiencing burnout. Between 2011 and 2014, there has been an almost ten-point increase in physicians who report feeling burned out. Even more troubling, greater than half of all physicians report feeling at least one symptom of burnout across all tenures and specialties. This presentation will examine the signs and the contributory factors leading to burnout and the risk implications it poses to quality patient care and to one’s overall well-being. Furthermore, the program provides ideas for changes that can be made in the work environment to once again provide meaningful and purposeful work.
