Social Media: Instant and Forever

Program Description

This live and interactive educational program will assist the physicians/providers and staff in understanding social media, the benefits and risks associated with social media in the medical practice, and the importance of knowing how to deal with social media in one’s care and treatment of social media-savvy patients. Growing concerns about negative ratings, patient privacy issues, and online reputations may leave the physicians/providers feeling overwhelmed and discouraged. With over 75% of adults active on social websites, this presentation is developed to assist the physicians/providers and staff in understanding the benefits and risks of social media, as well as what is appropriate for posting; and providing tools to mitigate a negative rating; while protecting both the physicians’/providers’ reputation(s) and the privacy of their patients. Case studies will provide the learners with real life scenarios which demonstrate the practical application of social media interactions in the healthcare setting.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Discuss three benefits associated with using social media.
  • Define the importance of having a social media policy within the medical office setting.
  • Apply risk management strategies for reducing liability associated with social media.
  • Identify one way to respond to an online negative posting about a medical office/physician.
