Pathology Closed Claim Trends
Program Description
This seminar will discuss how a pathology malpractice claim is initiated. The attendee will learn of events that may place the physician at risk for a claim and patient safety measures that may reduce the frequency and severity of claims specifically for the pathology specialty. In addition, this program will assist the physician in understanding what motivates a patient to pursue a claim through the presentation The Doctors Company closed claims.
Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Identify top two allegations in pathology claims
- Describe most common patient injuries
- Review the importance of communication when reporting abnormal findings to the referring provider
- Implement methods to improve the communication of results and recommendations to the referring provider
