Program Description
This presentation is on the topic of patient health literacy. The purpose of having this presentation is to understand what health literacy is and how it affects patients, specifically their outcomes. Some practical strategies will be discussed that can help the practice do a better job in communicating with their patients.
Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Recognize three common impediments to care due to health literacy.
- Identify patient safety implications in working with other cultures and patients with low health literacy.
- Discuss the liability impact of a patient’s low health literacy.
- Provide two measures or practices to implement to improve the delivery of safe patient care.
