CURES Update: Understanding the Risks of Non-Compliance

Program Description

This program will discuss the importance of Physicians being knowledgeable about legal and compliance requirements for participation in the CA CURES program.  Providers must also recognize their legal liability and risk if CURES regulations are not followed. Legal and administrative consequences of fraudulent or unauthorized CURES access activities will be discussed. Strategies to reduce risks and maintain compliance with CURES regulations will be presented.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the regulatory requirements for CURES registration 
  • Evaluate the legal responsibility to access CURES prior to ordering controlled substances for a patient
  • Explain the rationale for physician only access to CURES database
