Texting, Email, Skype, Oh My! How to minimize your HIPAA risks in this electronic age
Program Description
To avoid violation of HIPAA laws, physicians and their staff must be knowledgeable in state and federal privacy/confidentiality regulations for the guarding of their patient’s protected health information (PHI). The task of achieving compliance is a “group” effort in all medical practices, therefore all staff and providers must all be knowledgeable in their respective responsibilities. This seminar will define strategies to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations for privacy, security and confidentiality, especially when using modern technology such as email, text, Skype, etc.
Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Explain the purpose of HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules
- State how HIPAA privacy and security rules apply when using modern technology such as emails and text messaging
