Risks and Impact of Distractions and Interruptions in the Medical Office
Description
Technology and the dynamics of the modern medical office create a variety of risks and hazards for today’s patients. The most pervasive ones are distractions and interruptions. The nature of the distractions may be electronic, digital, or cultural. Personal electronic devices can create a digital distraction so engaging that it consumes awareness, potentially preventing healthcare providers from focusing on, caring for, or interacting with patients.
The goal of this program is to identify and understand the types of interruptions and distractions and their impact on patient safety. Additionally, discussion will address strategies to reduce these hazards. Attendees will have the opportunity to share experiences and remedies from their practices.
