HIPAA Fundamentals
Program Description
This Seminar provides an orientation to the basic requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). HIPAA gives patients many rights with respect to their Protected Health Information (PHI). This program provides details on the HIPAA Privacy, Security, and Breach Notification Rules, including but not limited to:
- What types of information does HIPAA Protect?
- Who must comply with HIPAA?
- How can patient information be used and disclosed under the HIPAA Privacy Rule?
Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Recognize the purpose of the HIPAA regulations
- Identify patient rights under the HIPAA Privacy laws
- Define commonly used HIPAA terms and acronyms
- Explain the consequences of a breach
- Develop steps to take that help maintain privacy and security and avoid a breach
