Ambulatory Surgery—Anesthesia Claims
Program Description
This seminar will review anesthesia-related injuries that may occur in the ambulatory surgery setting. Knowing the risks as they relate to the outpatient/ambulatory surgery center will assist the physician in identifying potential complications. A recent study by The Doctors Company provides insight into what two anesthesia groups have done to keep their claims count low and create positive patient experiences. Topics covered will include patient selection criteria, frequency and type of alleged injuries, and comorbidities that can impact anesthesia outcomes.
Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Compare three common anesthesia-related injuries that can occur in an ambulatory surgery center to three common anesthesia-related injuries that can occur in a hospital setting.
- Examine three risk mitigation strategies that can be applied when providing surgery center based anesthesia care.
- Apply three practices that an anesthesia group can implement to minimize the risk of a malpractice claim and/or action.
