HIPAA for Managers: The High-Level View

Description

This program is designed to provide a detailed managerial review of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The program is specifically directed to administrators, supervisors, and managers who are involved using tools to develop and manage their HIPAA privacy and security programs within their medical practices. The program explores and defines HIPAA policies and procedures, business associate agreements, security assessment and analysis, training requirements, HIPAA compliance requirements, breach events, and informed consent. After completing this course, managers are encouraged to adopt and exercise strategies which will minimize and/or eliminate HIPAA violations in the practice.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Assess resources to develop essential policies and procedures and conduct a security risk analysis
  • Conduct timely training for office managers that evaluates their competency with HIPAA regulations and requirements
  • Recognize and respond in a timely manner when a breach occurs
  • Apply OCR Covid-19 enforcement discretion and telemedicine guidelines
  • Recognize and respond appropriately when a patient's consent requires release of patient health information (PHI)
  • Integrate and use the four rules that are key to HIPAA regulations
  • Conduct policies and procedures associated with encryption
  • Prioritize cybersecurity risks that apply to medical or dental practices
