Interventional Radiology: Communications and Assessments (Claims Corner CME)

Description

Ensuring patient safety for any procedure requires communication between the diagnosing physician and the proceduralist. This includes ensuring all physicians are aware of pre-procedural testing that the proceduralist would need to adequately care for the patient and manage complications. In this case an assumption was made about lab tests that had been made. Adequate post-procedural monitoring is also critical to ensure that potential complications are noted early.
