Managing Orthopedic Risks (National Course)

Program Description

Closed claims data from the Physician Insurers Association of America (PIAA) ranked the orthopedic specialty as fifth among all physician specialties in frequency of claims. An analysis of closed orthopedic claims from The Doctors Company and PIAA revealed that most orthopedic claims result from systems error, rather than faulty medical judgment or performance. The analysis identified high risk encounters in orthopedics and the most frequent presenting conditions, procedures, injuries and allegations. The course covers the findings and presents case studies with strategies aimed at preventing, reducing, and mitigating the risks inherent in orthopedics. It helps to identify system errors and the strategies that can prevent errors, improve patient safety and reduce the risk of a malpractice claim.
