Champions for Health - Addressing and Managing Behavioral and Environmental Symptoms of Dementia
Program Description
The Doctors Company is pleased to jointly provide for CME credit The Alzheimer’s Project, a four course series developed by Champions for Health, the non-profit arm of the San Diego County Medical Society. This series is produced in conjunction with The Alzheimer’s Project Clinical Roundtable, a group of San Diego County neurologists, psychiatrists, geriatricians and geriatric psychologists. The goal for the series is to support primary care clinicians with evidence-based standards for screening, evaluation, and disease management of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.
The third course focuses on using the DICE (Describe, Investigate, Create treatment plan, Evaluate) method to assess behavioral symptoms of dementia and to create evaluation treatment plans. The course also covers the most effective use of pharmaceuticals for disease management, as well as common behavioral issues experienced by patients with dementia, and tools for management of these behaviors.

Objectives
After completing this activity, learners will be able to:
- Incorporate the DICE method into assessment and treatment of dementia and other clinical cases.
- Include caregivers in treatment planning for dementia patients.
- Attempt environmental and behavioral change interventions as the first treatment recourse for behavioral complications in patients living with dementia.
- Use the discussed best prescribing practices, especially the guidelines for aging and dementia patients.
