Champions for Health - Screening for Dementia among Adults with Cognitive Decline

Program Description

The Doctors Company is pleased to jointly provide for CME credit The Alzheimer’s Project, a four course series developed by Champions for Health, the non-profit arm of the San Diego County Medical Society. This series is produced in conjunction with The Alzheimer’s Project Clinical Roundtable, a group of San Diego County neurologists, psychiatrists, geriatricians and geriatric psychologists.  The goal for the series is to support primary care clinicians with evidence-based standards for screening, evaluation, and disease management of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias.

The first course introduces The Alzheimer’s Project and highlights the increasingly important role of primary care providers in dementia care. It presents The Alzheimer’s Project Cognitive Impairment Screening Algorithm and screening instruments, and it addresses reversible conditions that may present similar symptoms to cognitive impairment. The course incorporates four videos, with each followed by a series of related questions.

Learners are required to view all videos in order and answer the corresponding questions. After successful completion, learners may return to the course for full access to the materials at any time and in any order. You may also find other courses in the series by clicking on this link.

  • Utilize three recommended instruments (Mini-cog, AD8, or PHQ-2) for standardized screening visits.
  • Investigate and treat reversible conditions before giving a cognitive impairment diagnosis or making a referral to a specialist.
