Physician-Patient Relationship: When Does It Begin and When Does It End?

Program Description

This enduring program will assist the physician in understanding the principles which form the establishment of a physician-patient relationship, as well as the concerns which may result in the need for the physician to consider terminating the physician-patient relationship.  Additionally, the importance of timely documentation will be presented for the learner’s consideration.

Objectives

After completing this activity, learners will be able to:

  • Identify one way to notify a patient that the physician has not
    entered into a relationship with the patient.
  • Recognize what is meant by “curbside” consult.
  • Discuss the patient termination letter and what information
    should be included.
